1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until well blended; beat in eggs, vanilla; beat in flour and cocoa.
2. Pour the batter into a 9-inch by 9-inch square (or similar sized) glass pan, place in middle rack of oven for about 40 minutes; when a toothpick inserted in the brownies comes out clean, they're done. Remove the brownies to a wire rack to cool.
3. In a double boiler (or dish in the microwave), melt the baker's chocolate and butter, mixing them together. Spread over cooled brownies as icing, and serve.
Note: These brownies can be on the dry side, dousing them with Kahlua or other well-suited liqueur will do wonders!
